The finals of Punakha Open Monsoon Cup (football) was held in the Ugyen Academy ground at Khuruthang, Punakha on the 8th of September 2010 with extravagant entertaining programs by the students of Ugyen Academy, Khuruthang Middle Secondary School and Logodama Primary School. It was witnessed by over 2000 people including students and the local public.
The tournament was organized jointly by the games coordinators: Mr Namgay Dorji of Punakha Higher Secondary School and Mr. Kinley Dorji of Ugyen Academy with the theme: Clean and Green Punakha. The banners displayed around read: “Football for Green, Green for Clean.
The tournament, which started from 27th of September, 2010, was conducted simultaneously at Punakha Higher Secondary School ground and Ugyen Academy ground. It was mainly aimed at installing and encouraging the games sprit the youth and to discourage them from involvement in antisocial activities.
A total of 16 teams from Punakha and Wangdi Valley participated in the tournament. The participation of U-10 students from various primary Schools in the region further added charm of the tournament. It was conducted professionally by professional officials.
The finals were played between Chharo Pool of Wangdi Dzongkhag and UA Red Knights for senior categories. UA Red Knights defeated chharo Pool by 3 goals to Nil. In U-10 category, Logodama Primary School won in the penalty shoot out against Tencholing primary School.
Trophies and prizes were awarded to the under 12 category by R.D Constructions Punakha. Fair play Trophy, certificates and medals for the tournament was sponsored by Ugyen Academy. The Rolling Trophy was sponsored by FBT showroom Thimphu. Cash prizes were sponsored by Larsen and Toubro PHEP Mr. Chaku, Damchen Agencies, Bhutan Heritage, the UA cafe and Daycare center Punakha. |

Besides the Trophies, Medals and Certificates, the Winner and Runners up were also awarded with the cash prize of Nu.15, 000/- and Nu.10, 000/- respectively.
Honorable Yab Ugyen Dorji was the chief guest for the finals. |
